Argos is No 1 Christmas gift retailer
The latest GiftTrak* survey from TNS shows that not only has Argos remained the top gift retailer, but has strengthened its lead at the top of the table
A massive 10.2% of money spent on Christmas presents in the High Street was in Argos, even higher than last year
Woolworths moved up to second place - overtaking Marks and Spencer - despite their share of the Christmas spend slipping by 0.3%pts to just 4.2%
Marks and Spencer were in third place with 4.2%, a fall of 0.4% points
The Christmas gift market remained weak, with 1.9% less money being spent on Christmas presents than last year
*GiftTrak is a continuous tracking study of gift purchasing from TNS. The results cover all Christmas gifts purchased in the 12 weeks to December. The tracking study covers all gifts bought by respondents, including gift vouchers, clothing, accessories, food/confectionary, books, stationery, novelty items, household decor/textiles and membership subscription/activity experience gifts in addition to all traditional gifting categories. A gift is classified as any product bought by the consumer which they personally classify as a gift to a friend, family member or a treat for themselves
